The Perfect Lip Product?

Saturday, May 10, 2014

So I saw the Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvets on someone's blog (I can't remember) and was vastly intrigued, but thought, "Nah, Bourjois won't bring this product to Singapore." The very next day, while hanging around my local drugstore, I SAW IT. Four perfect capsules of gorgeousness sitting on the display waiting for some lovin'. It was love at first swatch.

What are the Rouge Edition Velvets, exactly? Basically a liquid lipstick promising a light texture, extreme comfort and a 24 hour wear. It may not seem much, but these HIT THE TARGET OF ALL ITS CLAIMS DEAD IN THE MIDDLE. It is matte alright, but so light that even when you smack your lips together, you don't feel anything. It is comfortable and absolutely non-drying, doesn't cling to any dry patches and HOLY COW. These WILL. NOT. COME. OFF. FOR. ANYTHING.

It is also extremely hassle-free because they apply much easier than most without a mirror. I'm not saying these are easy to apply on-the-go, but they don't need very precise application (the doe foot does that all for you) and it only takes about thirty seconds to do two coats. It is also easy to build up the colour and it doesn't chunk up or emphasise any dryness.

I've got the shade 02 Frambourjoise, a vibrant fuchsia that goes on opaque with 2 coats. This is a bit of an odd shade, though, as it pulls off fuchsia on some and red on others. I say it's a fuchsia because thats how it looks like in the tube. On me, it's quite red, but still a fuchsia nonetheless. On days when I fancy a more toned-down colour, or when I'm wearing heavier eye makeup, I've been LOVING the NYX Butter Gloss in Vanilla Cream Pie or Tiramisu over this!

These come in light, glass tubes with a corresponding colour cap and a doe foot applicator. Each tube contains 6.5ml and I got mine at $17SGD. I was a bit skeptical as it was so expensive! Did I really need this? Well, now I know the answer. YES YES A THOUSAND TIMES YES. Or should I say, Oui!

Note: This sank into my fine lines a little but no biggie! I'm not expecting a matte lipstick to smooth over the lines like a dream. Also, this applied patchily over lip balm so make sure you wipe your lips clean before using this!

Have you tried the Bourjois Velvets? What are your thoughts about them?
