Orange These Lips Ap-peel-ing?

Friday, August 01, 2014

I apologise for the o.t.t pun post title (or not :D ). I also apologise in advance for the number of times I am going to say the words 'orange', 'peach' and 'coral', but after all, it is what this post is all about, no? (;

Now, I've always been a pink everything girl. However, I've recently started branching out and reaching for those warmer shades as it gives a lovely glowing-from-within look!

Some people might be distance themselves from orange-based products at makeup counters (like I used to) because they're afraid it may make them look like this:

For someone who refused to wear anything that wasn't the colour of strawberry milk on my face, I can totally relate. However, there are some corals and peaches that are just B.E.A.U.T.I.F.U.L on the skin, and here are a few gems I have discovered.

I got the Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Lip Balm Stain in Rendezvous when these first came out. I had no idea what had gotten into me because at that time, I would never have worn such a colour. It is a lovely muted mandarin orange colour which is why I would recommend this for girls who are just testing the waters! It goes on balmy and leaves behind a very even stain. Reapplication is a breeze and totally fuss-free without drying your lips! There is a slight peppermint smell that might be slightly off-putting for some but it doesn't linger for long!

The Benefit Cha-Cha Tint may swatch a scary, bright, full-on orange at first, but don't worry, because once it's blended out, it gives the softest, peachy flush to your cheeks that makes you look like you've just been out in the sun! What's more, it is a stain so it stays on pretty much all day and is buildable if you prefer more colour intensity.

An offering for bolder gals is the NYX Extra Creamy Round Lipstick in Miracle. This packs a mean punch as far as colour goes. It is a bright, almost-neon watermelon pink with a hint of golden shimmer that is barely visible on the lips. Against neutral eyes, this makes your lips just pop!

The chubbiness of the Maybelline Master Glaze Blush Stick in Coral Sheen is what drew me in. It is a pretty coral pink with a satin finish. I just 'stamp' this on my cheeks and use my stipling brush to blend it all out. These blushes look very natural and are really fun to use! It is a bit small for what it is but I'd say it would take ages to finish using the whole thing up!

For those looking for a cream blush, the Maybelline Dream Bouncy Blush might be right up your alley! I bought mine in Asia, which apparently has a different name. The words at the back are all in Japanese, unfortunately, so I can't tell the shade although this looks similar to the western shade Coffee Cake. These are probably the most adorable blushes on the market, with a cushion-y, bouncy texture. It feels lovely when you use your fingers to get the product out, and it is indeed very creamy. However, it is slightly difficult to blend and lacking in pigmentation, but because the colour is such a brown-orange, you probably wouldn't want to use too much anyway. (;

Lastly, the cult favourite. The NARS Blush in Orgasm. It is described as a peachy pink with shimmer although it pulls more pink on me than most. The shimmer gives the loveliest glow and I love that it's sheerer than most NARS blushes, giving me more control with building up the colour. This is a bit of a splurge, but it is well worth the money in my opinion!

  1. I've always been a little wary of orange lip products -- I think they look great on other girls, but me? Hmmm. BUT! I might just give that Revlon balm stain a go next time it's on sale. Hopefully they'll have that shade!
