International Love || Makeup Looks From All Over The World - Comparison/Tutorial

Some of my favorite makeup looks, the classic American pin-up, classy French, English rose and Korean ulzzang, look similar at first glance, but upon closer observation, I have found that these looks are almost completely different in terms of product application and I thought it would be fun to do a little comparison between these looks!

1. The Pin-Up (America)

This makeup look was prevalent in the fifties/post-war era when things got a little easier and girls started dolling up again. They often sported a winged liner, fabulous lashes and of course, the star of the show, matte, blue-red lips!
It was all about matte during this era, so make sure you don't use any shimmery or glittery products! A small amount of sheen will add a slight healthiness to your look, though!

2. The Chic Parisienne (France)

Parisiennes may just be the embodiment of class and sophistication. They usually go for a simple look with glowing healthy skin and a bit of brown eyeshadow to make the eyes pop. A little sheer red on the lips with a peach/pink blush and you're good to go!

3. English Rose (UK)

If you watch Downton Abbey, you may already be familiar with the 'English Rose' look. Pale skin with pink, almost-ruddy cheeks that make you look like you've been out and about in the garden, flirting with the fairies and having fancy schmancy picnics! This look is even more simple than the first two, with almost nothing on the eyes!

Lips

4. Korean Ulzzang (Korea)

'Ulzzang' means 'best face' over in Korea. This usually comprises of pale skin, soft and straight eyebrows, 'puppy dog' eyes and dainty, stained lips! This look channels innocence and playfulness, contrasting its European counterparts. I like this for an everyday look because it's so easy and fun!

COMPARISONS:

Pin-up girls go for a full-on red lip instead of the just staining
The Pin-Up's liner is crisp, clean and winged upwards whereas the Ulzzang liner is winged downwards and smudged slightly
Pin-up looks are more made-up and heavier, with all-matte skin
Rosy cheeks are the way to go!

~~~
The French look requires more eyeshadow in darker colours than the others
The peachy pink blush is faint, and used low on the cheekbones, almost like a contour
French like glow-y, healthy skin!
The French look also gives moderate emphasis on the lips, with a red, sheer lip, instead of a matte one for easy, everyday wear
~~~

The English Rose goes completely bare on the eyelids with only a few licks of mascara
Blush is brought down to the jawline. Runway looks go to extremes for this but you don't have to! A slight dusting of sheer/sheeny blush will give you the same effect, just more muted and wearable!
English Roses have stained/'bee-stung'/'I've been out in the garden for a bit' lips with a red stain!

~~~
The Ulzzang look strives for youthfulness and innocence instead of maturity and sophistication
They draw a line longer than their eyes, pointing downwards slightly to get that 'puppy-dog'/'doe-eyed' effect
Soft, straight brows over arched, defined ones!
Sometimes, they like the 'aegyo sal', meaning 'puffy eyes', where they apply shimmer to the 'fatty' parts of their lower eyelid. This gives the effect of always-smiling eyes! (how adorable, no?)
Small, dainty lips are a yes in Korea. Stain the lips with a pink stain and top with clear gloss!
Disclaimer: I am not a makeup artist, nor do I claim to know everything about makeup. This is just what I think about these looks and products I use and think would be suitable to recreate them. Tips and information here are gathered from the makeup classes I attend, hours on Pinterest scrutinizing the looks and the many youtube tutorials I have watched as these are my favorites.
