Aēsop Sage & Zinc Facial Hydrating Cream

Sunday, September 14, 2014

I was recently gifted the Aēsop Sage and Zinc Facial Hydrating Cream with SPF 15, and have been using this as my daily moisturiser ever since, so I think it's about time I did a review! This is what the website claims:

Perfected after ten years of research and development, this lightweight, hydrating formulation contains mineral-based Zinc Oxide, which forms a barrier to reflect sunlight without clogging pores to leave skin feeling softened and protected.
It is non-comodegenic, enhanced with plant-derived vitamins including Vitamin E. This cream with mineral-based sunscreen is ideal for city living.

It contains quite a large dose of zinc oxide. 16.1% to be exact! It is also laden with other botanical extracts like sage, macadamia seed oil, evening primrose, soybean and lavender oil. Now, that's A LOT of extracts, which I am very pleased with, since chemicals can be too harsh on my sensitive skin.

This cream is indeed very lightweight despite its lotion-y texture, and sinks into the skin immediately after applying. One thing about this that should be noted is its strong lavender scent. The scent is fine with me as I personally like scented products, but to some it may be quite overpowering. That being said, the smell disappears after about a minute or so.

It can be a tad bit sticky if you over apply, but I feel that using this by itself doesn't give me enough moisture, so I apply a dab of my Nivea Soft Creme on top of this. It gives a sort of mattifying effect, which is great for my oily skin and doesn't make my primer or makeup slip and slide everywhere. In fact, I might even go as far as to say that it helps my makeup last longer!

I find that my skin has been less clogged after using this and actually feels pampered and well-taken care of! If I have to say anything bad about this product, it would have to be its lack of enough SPF. I think it should've contained SPF 30 or higher since it is targeted at protecting your face. I also don't really like the cap on the tube as I can't seem to screw it on properly. It gets wonky and I cannot screw it all the way shut (as you can probably tell from the first picture) and it irks me quite a bit. I'm afraid dirt might get in and the ingredients will be contaminated more easily.

Overall, I really like this product but I'm not sure if I will repurchase it since it's so expensive!
